- Wolseley UK operates a nationwide network,
linking all trading branches to centrally located computer systems,
as well as providing
management and operations services to locations throughout the
UK and Ireland.
The IT Department is made up of 4 sections: the Systems Support
Team, the Operations Team, the Systems Development Team and the
Technical Team. The Systems Support Team provides a telephone
help service on branch systems, PC applications and specialist
systems as well as carrying out Quality Assurance and system implementation
services.
The Operations Team look after the day to day running and maintenance
of the main centrally located servers and hardware, adhering to
strict production schedules and data security requirements.
The Systems Development Team are charged with providing application
solutions, both bespoke and packaged, to company
requirements, usually identified by trading divisions and departments.
This can typically involve analysis of requirements, systems design,
database design, program specification, coding and testing.
The Technical Team consist of specialists in such areas as networking,
operating systems, databases, PCs and Server technologies and
in addition to being involved in technology innovation, provide
an internal pool of technical expertise.
