Control and co-ordination of corporate responsibility matters is provided through a framework of meetings at various levels across Wolseley UK. The overall structure is described below and provides a robust governance structure to monitor and direct improvements in the corporate responsibility performance of our business.
Corporate Responsibility Group
This group is responsible for setting policy, supporting initiatives, developing targets and reviewing performance. It also reports any relevant issues to the Leadership Team and meets every quarter. The group includes members of the Leadership Team and senior management representatives from across the business.
Environmental Working Group
The role of the group is to review the various environmental programmes, inititives and best practices underway within the business, and to make recommendations to improve environmental performance throughout the company. It comprises various environmental representatives, including the head of health, safety and environment.
Waste Management Sub-Group
The purpose of this group is to examine all aspects of waste management performance, ranging from recycling and environmental aspects to cost implications, and to recommend improvements. The group meets bi-monthly and is attended by representatives from our waste management contractors.
Transport Sub-Group
The role of this body is to capture the environmental benefits of the various transport efficiency projects underway across the business and to evalute, recommend and assist in implementing potential environmetal improvements within the transport network. This group includes members of the transport and environment departments.
Carbon Management Sub-Group
This group is responsible for reviewing, evaluating and implementing carbon and energy efficiency recommendations proposed by the Carbon Trust, and ensuring that the benefits are captured and reported back to the business. This group includes representatives from both Wolseley UK and the Carbon Trust.
Timber & Chain of Custody Sub-Group
The purpose of this group is to examine the current status of the Chain of Custody programme and to evaluate the risks and opportunities arising from the timber supply chain. This group comprises members from the timber procurement team as well as Chain of Custody representatives.
Corporate Risk Steering Group
This group is responsible for identifying the key business risks that affect Wolseley UK and for ensuring that necessary controls and resources are deployed to ensure they are reduced or mitigated to an acceptable level. It also reports any relevant issues to the Leadership Team and meets every quarter. The group includes three Leadership Team members with various senior management representatives from across the business responsible for reviewing and updating specific elements of the risk register.
Executive Safety Steering Group
The purpose of this group is to agree the Occupational Health & Safety Strategy, assess the effectiveness of tactical programmes and initiatives, and monitor safety related key performance indicators. It includes a Wolseley UK Leadership Team member and various senior management representatives from across the business.
Fleet Safety Steering Group
The Fleet Safety Steering Group aims to reduce the number of collisions each year involving Wolseley UK vehicles. The group consists of both car fleet and commercial fleet managers, Wolseley UK's insurers and brokers, fleet safety experts and both branch and operational managers, to ensure that practical and effective initiatives are implemented.
Collisions Review Meeting
This body was developed to provide a framework so that the current status of significant motor claims within Wolseley UK could be reviewed. This review allows for the identification of key learning points and motor claims trends, both internal and external, that impact on business performance.
Company Car Focus Group
The role of this group is to minimise the risks associated with a large fleet, ensure that continual focus on the car fleet is maintained and establish key issues facing car fleet drivers. The group serves to identify and implement an array of initiatives to keep Wolseley UK's car drivers safe while driving on the road.
Employers' and Public Liability Review Meeting
The purpose of this meeting is to review both employers' and public liability claims and forge strong links between Wolseley UK and its insurers. The meeting also facilitates the exchange of information, which provides the basis for stronger defence of claims. Any significant trend in claims can also be identified so that measures can be taken to prevent future recurrences.
Health, Safety and Environment Team Meeting
This meeting provides a forum for the health, safety and environment team to discuss Wolseley UK's strategic health, safety and environment plans and projects, and review their effectiveness. The meeting also analyses changes in legal requirements and significant issues to the company.
Regional Health Safety and Environment Meeting
The role of these meetings is to ensure the health, safety and environment regional managers regularly liaise with their development counterparts and Wolseley UK's operational management team at both a national and local level. They provide an opportunity for field based health, safety and environment managers to demonstrate the initiatives that are being rolled out into the business, as well as helping to raise awareness of the health, safety and environment matters affecting sites at a local level.
Safety Team Sub-Groups
The purpose of these sub-groups is to identify key programmes and projects that the health, safety and environment team will introduce to raise the profile of the health, safety and environment function within the business. These programmes are divided between the team members and sub-groups formed. The sub-groups take ownership for that particular project and complete all necessary actions to see the projects through to conclusion.
