Wolseley signs European Road Safety Charter
Wolseley has signed the European Road Safety Charter as part of its commitment to fleet safety.
The company has become a signatory of the Charter - a European participatory body made up of enterprises,
associations, research institutions and public authorities.
Signatories share a commitment to implementing effective road safety initiatives, with the overall objective of
reducing road fatalities.
Paul Gallemore, Wolseley’s European head of health, safety, environment and quality, said: “With more
than 10,000 vehicles across Europe, Wolseley recognises its role in implementing effective
road safety measures, and is focused on continuous improvement.
We are delighted that our application has been accepted by the Charter;
this will be an ideal forum to share best practice with other like-minded organisations.”
Wolseley’s comprehensive approach to safe driving has resulted in its incident rate in the UK decreasing
by 50 per cent in four years. The company has a well established Fleet Safety Steering Group which has developed a
fleet safety action plan.
The company has also implemented various initiatives including an online driving risk assessment, safe driver’s
handbook which is given to all new commercial vehicle and car drivers, a regular road safety employee
newsletter, a ‘Safe Driver of the Year competition’ and active participation in events such as National Road
Safety Week in the UK.
