- Board Appointment
Wolseley UK, the UK arm of the international building
materials group Wolseley plc, has appointed IT director Derek
Hufton to the board.
The appointment emphasises Wolseley UK’ continuing
investment in IT development supporting its UK business. Wolseley UK is the UK’s leading national supplier of plumbing,
heating and building materials to private and public sectors of
the construction industry, with sales exceeding £1.7bn and
over 1400 branches throughout the UK serving customers in building
and allied services. Its brands include the national chains Plumb
Center and Builder Center.
Derek, 51, joined Wolseley UK from local government in 1988.
He lives in Myton on Swale, near Wolseley UK national head
office and IT base at Ripon, North Yorkshire.
He heads a team of 60 IT staff providing a national service to
Wolseley UK branches, customers and suppliers. Among many
initiatives, Derek has been responsible for the introduction of
online real-time point-of-sale systems into the 1400 Wolseley
trading outlets in the UK which, with over 9000 users, is one
of the largest networks of its kind and currently nearing completion
of a rollout of online systems into 1400 Wolseley trading outlets
which, with 9,000 users, is one of the largest networks of its
kind in the UK.
Derek is a member of the British Computer Society and a Chartered
Information Systems Professional.
Wolseley UK managing director Adrian Barden said: “I
