A Gledhill anti-vacuum valve for the gas assembly of ElectraMate 2000 and Gulfstream II units.  This valve is used in hot water heaters to prevent a vacuum forming anywhere where there's potential for draw-off rate to exceed the rate of flow to an appliance's inlet, a potential issue in properties where several outlets are sited below the heater. A check cartridge is normally kept closed by system pressure, however when a vacuum occurs suction opens the check cartridge allowing air to flow through and equalize the pressure.
